About 12K Retrofits
12K Retrofits was set up in Leicester in 2021 by Dan. We fit wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to supercars and prestige cars without disturbing what the factory built: Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Mercedes-AMG. Where no kit exists for a car, we engineer one.
Where no kit exists, we build one
Some cars have no CarPlay kit available from anyone. That is the work we enjoy most. We read the car's own CAN signals to learn what each factory button and screen is saying. Then we write the controller firmware that lets those buttons drive CarPlay as though it had always been part of the car.
We have done this on a Ferrari LaFerrari and a McLaren Senna, two cars no one else offered a solution for. On a Ferrari F12 we rewrote part of the interface's software so a single press of the factory button switches between Ferrari's own screen and CarPlay. We build our own software for reading a car's CAN bus, so every new model starts from a proper map of its signals rather than guesswork.
Bespoke projects are quoted individually and carry the same 18-month hardware warranty as everything else we supply. If your car is not on our compatibility list, ask anyway.
How a retrofit is done
Each kit is built around a vehicle-specific loom that plugs into the factory connectors behind the head unit. No wire is cut and no joint is spliced. CarPlay appears on the original screen and answers to the original controls. The car keeps its own audio sources, reverse camera, parking sensors and steering-wheel buttons.
Because nothing is altered, the work is reversible. Unplug the loom and refit the head unit; the car is as it left the factory, with no evidence that anything was ever there. We treat that as the test of a proper installation. If you sell the car and want it back to standard, we remove the kit and refit the original at the same labour rate as the install.
Where a car already has the hardware and only lacks the software, as with Porsche PCM 4.0, the Lamborghini Urus and later Bentley and Rolls-Royce systems, we enable CarPlay by coding rather than by fitting anything.
Security fitted the same way
We fit Thatcham-approved tracking and immobilisation from SmarTrack and MetaTrak, monitored around the clock by the Global Telemetrics Secure Control Centre. After every security install we can write a letter for your insurer or finance company setting out exactly what has been fitted. We also fit dash cams, on the same visit as a retrofit if you like.
Where we work
We are based in Leicester and all fitting is mobile: at your home, at your office or at the facility where the car is stored. Most of our work runs along the Leicester to London corridor, though we cover the whole of the UK. Travel is charged at 60p per mile from Leicester, calculated on the round trip. International visits are arranged, quoted and agreed before we travel.
Warranty and returns
Everything we supply carries an 18-month hardware warranty. It holds whether we fit the kit or someone else does, provided the fitting form and photographs of the connections and mounting location are sent to us at the time of installation. Returns are handled under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
